Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition characterized by widespread muscle pain and, in some cases, joint and tendon pain, as well as fatigue. It is also often accompanied by other symptoms, such as sleep disturbances, muscle stiffness, headaches, tingling or numbness in the extremities, problems with concentration and memory, and emotional symptoms such as anxiety and depression.
The exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, but it is believed that a combination of genetic, neurobiological, psychological, and environmental factors plays a role. Fibromyalgia is thought to be a disorder of pain processing in the central nervous system, causing pain signals to be interpreted with increased sensitivity.
Fibromyalgia is a complex condition that is often difficult to diagnose. There are no specific tests or imaging procedures that can confirm fibromyalgia. Therefore, the diagnosis is mainly based on symptoms and the exclusion of other possible conditions.
The treatment of fibromyalgia focuses on relieving symptoms and improving patients’ quality of life. This may include a combination of medications, such as pain relievers, antidepressants, or medications to improve sleep, as well as exercise therapy, physiotherapy, stress management techniques, and other alternative therapies. A multidisciplinary approach that takes different aspects of the condition into account is the most effective.
